View Full Version : DS SHMUPs

I've been looking for good GBA or DS SHMUPs. On the homebrew side I found Vulkanon and BulletHell (http://gba.pqrs.org/vulkanon/)

Nanostray is the only one I can recall as a retail DS game, and for the GBA I have my old copy of Gradius Galaxies floating around.

Does anyone know of any others for this platform? I'm quite fond of both the R-Type vertical scrollers, as well as the Touhou/Bullet Hell ones. Any SHMUPs will do.

Slim pickings for the DS, but....

There's always the Konami compilation.

I like nesDS and snesDS because they have a lot of good SHMUPs, classic.

R-Type ? Vertical ?

(I want a XenonIIDS ! I want it now !)

Iridion II is a GBA Vertical scroller SHMUPs...

(I want 1942DS ! I want it now !)

Have a look at Raid Over the River, seems to be pretty cool (but not yet released)

Hey ! Have a look to MarcaDS too ! It's a kind of Mame for DS.

(I want another pony ! I want it now !)

Post delayed due to connection problems.

Haha. I didn't catch that. R-Type horizontal shooters.

For the GBA I have Iridion II, and for the NES I have 1942 and 1943. The best arcade SHMUPS don't appear on the MarcaDS compatibility list, so I have yet to install that. I so far also have R-Type III for GBA, and Aero Fighters for SNES.

I guess the proper way to distinguish the two, without making a fool out of myself for forgetting vertical from horizontal would be to distinguish between the Maniacal and Methodical shooters. I'm surprised more aren't out for the system. Vertical shooters would work well on the DS with the extra real estate. Although the lack of continuity between the screens could be an issue I guess.
