Chess is also a sport. You can call whatever you want a sport, but that doesn't make it any less sad or sissy. :P

"Imagine becoming a chess grandmaster and suddenly being told to throw it all away because they've come up with a Chess 2"

My friends have been bugging me to get Starcraft 2, they're already in like the bronze/silver league.

well its not really "already in" w/e league
when you start playing ladder
you play 5 placement games
depending on how well you do, you get placed in a certain league

the leagues go bronze - silver - gold - platinum - diamond
the only league you cannot go straight into, is diamond
so again depending on how well you do in your placement games, you can theoretically go straight to platinum and beat your friends

Well I think most of them started in bronze and have made their way to silver.

Isn't it a video game? I would rather stick with chess (LOL) but I'm barely learning from my friend how to play "better".

Isn't it a video game?

That's sort of the point. In any case Starcraft 2 takes a long time to master, I can't imagine making diamond league without at least a month or two's worth of just hardcore "training". Have you seen some of the apm's of these players?!

Maybe I should play this game during some point in my lifetime!?

Starcraft 1 is an all time classic, and keys have be found as low as $5 online. Well worth it :)

Starcraft 1 was amazing, especially since the original Battle.NET was so fun even years upon years after the release of the game.

In case you guys are interested there is a website http://www.cybergamer.com.au which has various gaming ladders, theres one for Starcraft II with around 200 people on the ladder. Check it out if you play it...I'm on there...I'm just bad.
