This is the first I heard about it, but apparently the new Playstation Vita has games that require online passes to go online. What this means is that once you buy a game and register the included pass onto your device, reselling the game means that they will lose online functionality. The "good" news is that these passes can be bought, but limiting online access sucks. I guess I link this a bit to how Steam handles games.
Last month, word came out that the Japanese version of Hot Shots Golf: World Invitationalfor the PlayStation Vita included an online pass (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/29/hot-shots-golf-world-invitational-requires-play-ticket-to-tee/). With the embargo on North American Vita coverage lifted, we can now confirm that the American version does indeed feature an online pass. Of the Vita games we've acquired so far, Wipeout 2048 is the only other title to feature an online pass.
