Don Mattrick of Microsoft has addressed the issue of Xbox One's "Always Online" feature by simply saying offline gamers can stick to the 360.

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360”
“It’s a service-based world, if you think about things and how they get better with an internet connection, that’s a design choice we’ve made. I think people will appreciate it... We did a lot of testing, a lot of consumer research and I think we made a good choice.”

And that's Microsoft's official stance on the matter.

Microsoft appear to be digging the hole deeper and deeper for themselves, and I just don't see the benefit of gradually decreasing your target audience day after day....

I'm pretty sure they want that Wii casual crowd, that's why they've invested so much money turning the XBOX into a cable box. Microsoft have been going after the casuals since the release of kinect. Why else would they ignore and alienate gamers.
