DSDatabase’s Next Revision

Are we all disgusted with the DSDatabase front page yet? Frankly I never liked the theme, it never matched the DSDatabase feel and it was pretty alien to me. I thought that the theme would be quickly replaced, but as time passed, other aspects of DSDatabase took priority, and pretty soon, the theme was permanent. If you felt that the bland blue theme is starting to become overused, or maybe the fact that the cluttered mess of blue shades just never appealed to you, then rejoice, a new DSDatabase revision is coming.

Chinese New Year Raffle Winners!

Hiya everyone, I apologize for the delay, I know I’ve been saying that a lot recently, but cutting out 159 little slips with email addresses is really no easy task, and even worse is checking all the entrants for duplicates.

Anyways, I want to thank you everyone for joining, and I most definitely need to thank the EDGE team for sponsoring the tournament.

So to cut to the chase, you can all view the video right here:

And you thought you were a good Tetris player!

I thought I was a pretty good Tetris player. I could always turn impossible situations around, or deal with pieces going down pretty fast, etc. I’ve played Tetris on a variety of consoles, but never have I seen anything as fascinating as Bastet.

null

Bastet has probably been around for quite some time, but I’ve only discovered it today. Bastet is also known as Evil Tetris or Bastard Tetris. The idea behind Bastet is to provide a new level of difficulty for Tetris without the standard speeding up or raising the level of odd bumps. Instead Bastet finds the best piece for the current scenario and simply avoids giving that piece.

Chinese New Year’s Giveaway!

null

As a major thank you for the record amounts of viewers at DSDatabase, we are going to keep hosting giveaways! It is also an apology to some of our usual members, for the past week, I’ve really dropped the ball in terms of updates and the site. I’ve somehow crippled the server, some of the forum’s database, but I’ve managed to fix it up.

Anyways, back onto a happy note, this giveaway is sponsored by the EDGE team. We are giving away TWO EDGE DS CARTS. The rules are extremely simple, just COMMENT ON ANY POST ON DSDATABASE BLOG and you will be AUTOMATICALLY ENTERED INTO A RAFFLE. The names will be drawn on January the 27th, 2009, so obviously ONLY COMMENTS BEFORE JANUARY 26th, 2009 AND AFTER THIS POST COUNTS. I forgot to mention, the need for a valid email is ABSOLUTELY crucial. If you don’t include an email, how would I contact you?

TinyMO - MMORPG for the DS?

The developer Clintorion unveiled his project yesterday, an MMORPG for the DS. I entered the GBATemp thread expecting absolutely nothing.

null

It isn’t the first time people have claimed to have MMORPG’s. Maplestory DS turned out to be nothing more than a side-scroller while Runescape, although impressive, was merely connecting to a few players at a time. Even before the retail games we had a few demos of worlds that homebrewers planned to change into real MMORPG games. Unfortunately nothing came of it.

This MMORPG is much more developed. According to the author, it is a proof of concept more than an actual game. This MMORPG is an actual MMORPG, you can actually connect to others, talk to others, etc. There is a pretty rough battle system, PVP areas, etc. The map consists of a single dungeon and a few forested areas, and probably under 10 panels. Nevertheless, this proof of concept is definitely interesting.

Protecting your DS Lite PART 2

It seems that people have been catching on with screen protectors. I remember when I bought my Gameboy Advance SP and got a screen protector for it, everyone was asking why I would bother, nothing should ever make contact with the screen. I guess it could be that the DS is touch screen centric, but then you can’t help but notice that screen protectors are getting extremely popular.

Screen protectors are absolutely essential to keeping your DS in tip top shape. You can live with a scratched up case. It might look bad but it won’t get in the way of your gaming. A scratch on the screen, however, does. The purpose of a screen protector isn’t exactly to avoid scratches, in fact, screen protectors generally get scratched up a lot faster than the regular DS screen. The true purpose of a screen protector is to get scratched instead of the screen, that way you can simply replace the protector instead of the entire screen.

Protecting your DS Lite PART 1

Today I will be writing Part 1 of this special on how to protect your DS. We will be looking at a variety of products, but outlining my favorites. If you want to keep your DS Lite (or I guess this is applicable to other handheld consoles) for whatever reason, then take a quick read over the next few posts.

There are many reasons to protect your DS Lite. Some people want to keep it shiny just because they love it that way, others want to resell the product in mint condition. Or perhaps you tend to drop your DS Lite a lot and just want to avoid breaking it.

As you may know, I’ve tried a variety of cases, protectors, guard masks, pretty much everything you can do to protect a DS Lite. And honestly, none of them come close to what my ideal set is. What I look for in a good case is comfort, style and protection. And some of them are definitely nice in terms of style, others are really comfortable to hold with grips and grooves (which ruins the style), but I can safely say that none of them protect as well as I’ve hoped.

DSDatabase Clubhouse Games Chess Tournament Final Match!

null

Hey everybody, I know I’ve been pushing this portion of the site lately, and it has been pretty successful, but for those of you who don’t know, DSDatabase.org had it’s origins in DS games, and solely DS games. Eventually we had tournaments, and it has become a huge part of the site. Every month or two, we host a tournament with anywhere from 20-50 players and hand out prizes to winners as well as raffle off a prize among the contestants.

Just to note, we will be hosting yet ANOTHER tournament shortly after the Clubhouse Games tournament has ended. So keep your eyes peeled for chances to have fun, play your favorite DS games and win some awesome prizes!

Happy New Year from DSDatabase! - especially to the winners

Happy new year guys! Hope you all had a great day today, staying up late, watching the fireworks, possibly playing on your DS, etc! :)

I know I said I’d do this earlier today, but been having one of those horrible days where the computer just doesn’t seem to agree with me. As a result, there will be no video for the raffle, as it was corrupted. I will try to pull it out of the completely fried memory card again later, but as of now, you’re just going to have to click read more to see the winners! :) Happy new years guys! What better way to celebrate than to try out a brand new Supercard DS ONE?
