Our newest sponsor GameByGame is generously offering a DSiPlayer flash cart for a free raffle. They’ve been with us for no time at all and are already willing to shell out some serious prizes, so be sure to support them as well as supporting us by visiting this site, participating in this raffle and of course buying from GameByGame.com. And the most impressive part of this raffle is the fact that it takes practically nothing to participate, you quite literally provide your email address and you are good to go.
What is the iPlayer, and why would you want it? [Read the DSDatabase iPlayer Review] Well if you haven’t been with the scene lately, be sure to check it out. This $50 flash cart is one of the most expensive out there because it is completely unique. So if you have an AceKard 2i or an M3i Zero, getting the iPlayer is still completely sane. The iPlayer is not a flash cart designed to play commercial games, instead it focuses on homebrew and multimedia, and it does it well. With the latest news that the iPlayer now has the one and only GameBoy Advance emulator, making it the ONLY GameBoy Advance solution for the Nintendo DSi, as well as the only cart that can play avi, mp4, flv and other video codecs without any conversion, the iPlayer is without a doubt a unique cart.
How do you participate in this raffle?
It is simple, you simply reply to ANY DSDatabase blog post with a valid email address during the allotted time. You do so by filling out the form at the very bottom of the page. If you are a DSDatabase member, just post anything, and I will use the email address tied to your account, if not, then you will have to fill in your email address in the email address field or just include it in your post. Now it isn’t necessary for you to post anything else, but I’d personally prefer a sentence or two rather than blank responses. So recap:
- reply to any blog post
- make sure there is a valid email address
- that is ALL you need to do
I also encourage users to post on our forum and subscribe to the DSDatabase YouTube channel. I may or may not decide to reward those who do.
For those of you that may be unaware, the AKAIO 1.5 version was JUST RELEASED moments ago! The firmware believed to be speculation has lifted off at last! Well, this information is straight from GBAtemp, and Normatt, the AKAIO programmer, teamed up with some Yellow Wood Goblin dude and released the binary files. Now, ladies and gentlemen, please note that if you want to update loaders in the future, you MUST UPDATE TO 1.5. I repeat, you must UPDATE to 1.5! This version is quite fantastic, because it features fixes for 100+ NDS games, anti-piracy destroyer thing, a POR fix (what the bloody hell is that?) and WII CONNECTIVITY. I really am pleased and kinda laughing right now. Please download at GBATemp.net and discuss here or there.
Here is the official changelog from GBATemp:
+ Fixed issue with the hiddenFileNames globalsettings option not accepting non lowercase filenames.
+ Optimizations to the AK2 dldi should be a little quicker now.
+ Update Dutch translation (Thanks MarioWaza).
+ Update Spanish translation (Thanks Pendor).
+ AK2/AK2i clones are now officially unsupported.
+ Gba icon has been removed from main selection screen on DSi.
+ Removed outdated plugin system.
+ Per rom GBA frame support (256×192x15bpp)
- Place BMP with internal game id of gba rom in __aio/frames.
+ Added support for save sizes up to 256Mbit (32Megabyte).
+ .sav is now default save extension.
+ Reverse Alphabetical List sorting (set sortListAlpha=0 in globalsettings.ini).
+ Auto-Anti-Piracy Patcher updated.
+ ARGV support for homebrew.
+ New DSi detection (Shouldn’t show slot2 icon after softreset on ak2i now).
+ Disable start menu by adding “LockStartMenu = 1″ to your globalsettings.ini
+ Fixed Trainer Toolkit support.
Please refer to LoaderChangelog.txt for compatibility fix!
If you guys paid attention to a certain post on the forum, DSDatabase reached a milestone a little over 10 days ago. Our videos on YouTube had a combined total of over a MILLION views. This is certainly no small feat, and some of our staff, especially me_too_lazy were quite proud of it.
As a result of this, a new YouTube channel is finally created. Because our YouTube channel was practically non-existent and the fact that I didn’t know how to use YouTube all that well, the amount of subscribers, channel views, etc are fairly abysmal. So, with the launch of our new channel, I call upon ALL DSDatabase viewers to please click into our new DSDatabase YouTube channel and subscribe there. It is extremely easy to browse through the videos offered on YouTube, you can discuss our videos, and I’ll be sure to start talking more in my videos :).
What is NDS-GBA Emulator? It is what we all thought was impossible ages ago, an emulator for a slot 1 flash cartridge, allowing a slot 1 cart to run GBA roms. The emulator is created by DarkChen, and his blog is a bit sparse but it has more information regarding the emulator. It runs pretty well, and there are lots of features worth checking out. I’d say this is yet another EXCELLENT reason to purchase an iPlayer. The cart is certainly the most unique out there and I think the team behind it should definitely get at least some credit for being a bit creative and thinking out of the box.
It is such a significant release that I had to immediately update my iPlayer review to reflect this piece of homebrew, the new section can be read below or with the actual updated iPlayer review (updates span more than just these few paragraphs).
There has been so much hype about this game since it’s announcement I wouldn’t know where to start. In fact, it seems to have been discussed more than Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver. I haven’t played it too much yet, to be honest. But here is a short article to give you an idea of what the game is about, if you didn’t already know.
Hello guys, I’m shadowhunter, and I’m doing my very first official review of a Nintendo DSi accessory. Before I even get started with anything, I would like to send a thank you to BambooGaming/TopGamingGears for providing me with this sample. Also, I want to give an even bigger thank you to PharaohsVizier, for taking time out of his day to request this sample. He’s been kind enough to send me small updates regarding my grip’s shipment. Well, let’s get on with the review! Read the rest of this entry »
The Nintendo DS browser, is, well, obviously, a web browser for the Nintendo DS. The browser got discontinued after release; Nintendo never announced why. I happen to still have a copy I picked up from Fry’s a long time ago.
In a nutshell: The DS browser renders well for a mobile browser, but renders real slow. It takes usually about a minute to fully render a page. There’s no flash, no java, no ajax… but I can render html-heavy websites with ease.
When it comes to the DS browser, there are two types of rendering. Overview mode, in which the chosen screen will render just like the desktop, but real small. There’s a little blue box in which you can drag around, that magnifies the part in which you highlight in real time on the opposite screen. SSR mode, or Small Screen Rendering, is just like a phone browser. Only certain parts are rendered, and the page is shoved down to the width of the screen. SSR usually renders faster than Overview.
So how does DSDatabase’ Forums stack up with the DS browser? I ran some speed tests to find out.
I’ve had my iPlayer for some time thanks to 4CoolDay.com
The cart is amazing and pretty much does everything they advertised. If you want a cart that can run .avi files, look no further, the iPlayer is the only one that can do it, and it does it well. I love it and will probably keep using it for a while. Honestly the image is sharp and crystal clear, playback is good and overall the cart just works like it should.
