The long-awaited Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is here, released in the US. I’ve had my hands on it for a few days already, and I have to say, I’m impressed. There’s a nifty amount of puzzles to solve, and the storyline is just as good as Professor Layton and the Curious Village.<\/p>\n

Layton 2 is the direct sequel to Curious Village. The storyline in a nutshell: Layton’s friend manages to get hold of a box, rumored to kill anyone who opens it. Layton’s friend is later found dead, leaving a train ticket behind. Layton and Luke take the train to find the secret of the box – and the killer.<\/p>\n

I have yet to beat the game, but I’ve played it for a few hours now, and I’d thought I’d share my thoughts on it for my first blog post.<\/p>\n

First off, Layton 2 has a much more darker, sinister storyline than Layton 1. It’s even a bit scary sometimes. Throughout the second half of the game, it has a very dark environment. No wonder why this game is rated E10.<\/p>\n

One thing that I thought was cool was the in-game animated videos. They were well placed, and are as satisfying to watch as Phoenix Wright finds Mr. Sahwit guilty. I noticed you couldn’t skip past the videos – but you wouldn’t really want to, as you would miss a lot of the storyline.<\/p>\n

What’s annoying sometimes is where there’s a puzzle that you HAVE to solve before moving on. Some of the puzzles are annoyingly difficult, even when unlocking all the hints.<\/p>\n

Some puzzles are funny, some puzzles are creatively depicted, and overall it’s a pretty good game. Go pick up a copy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
