Does Battery saving mode on the 3DS affect DS games?

I was wondering if the battery saving mode on the 3DS will affect the way regular DS games look? Or does it only affect the way the 3DS games look?

The power saving mode is supposed to lower the backlight in an all black screen, so it probably works on the 3DS and the DS too. I can't see why it'd affect the look of the game much though.
