Blackberry Messenger or more commonly known as BBM is starting to roll out to iOS users via iTunes and Android. BBM is a messenger similar to WhatsApp, ChatOn, LINE and Kik, providing a chat service that is cross platform. Blackberry Messenger was one of the strongest reasons for Blackberry's initial success and probably the only reason to own an older Blackberry device at this point in time. They've always been considerably faster, more reliable and has a number of cool group features. While WhatsApp has gained a lot of traction, it'll be interesting to see if Blackberry can at least retain the instant messaging service. I'm hopeful that my friends will jump onboard, since shared calendars and notifications regarding whether messages were read or not are pretty huge to me, but Blackberry's brand has suffered pretty badly. There's also a bit of angst since it was scheduled to be released this morning, but hopefully it'll be worth the wait.
