Majora’s Mask 3DS Announced for Spring 2015
Today’s Nintendo Direct announcement dropped a bombshell; The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS will be released in Spring 2015. Rumors of a Majora’s Mask remake have been floating basically from the moment Ocarina of Time was remade for the Nintendo 3DS. They’ve been a little more credible in the past year and a half, but even then, they diverged greatly. Some have claimed that it would be released on the WiiU or as an exclusive for the New Nintendo 3DS, of course there are the rumors that it got cancelled floating around as well.
That’s all gone, Majora’s Mask is heading to the Nintendo 3DS. It appears to be in the same style as the Ocarina of Time remake done by Grezzo. I had no complaints with their remake, so I’m glad they’re doing it again. Asides from being incredibly faithful to the original Ocarina of Time, bugs and tricks included, their new textures looked fantastic and they made subtle changes to pain points like the iron boots. Hopefully Majora’s Mask will get the same treatment, faithful recreation with minor tweaks. Number one on my list is the save system on Majora’s Mask, but that’s just me.
As a bit of background, Majora’s Mask was release originally on the Nintendo 64 as a follow up to the critically acclaimed Ocarina of Time, making it the second 3D Legend of Zelda title. Ratings were not nearly as high and development was obviously rushed. The game employs a 3 day ultimatum that has the player repeating the same 3 days repeatedly, altering minor details and gaining shortcuts along the way. Opinion was mixed initially, but over time Majora’s Mask has shot up in popularity. It stands out as the darkest of all Legend of Zelda titles and also a rather unique experience. Check out the trailer below and get hyped for the release of Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS.
