{"id":428,"date":"2014-07-29T18:23:50","date_gmt":"2014-07-30T02:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/?p=428"},"modified":"2014-09-03T18:45:30","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T02:45:30","slug":"nintendo-3ds-what-size-sd-card-should-i-get","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/2014\/07\/29\/nintendo-3ds-what-size-sd-card-should-i-get\/","title":{"rendered":"Nintendo 3DS &#8211; What size SD card should I get?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You probably haven&#8217;t thought about the SD card that came with your Nintendo 3DS since you bought it. \u00a0In most cases, it came with either a 2GB or 4GB card that was already in the console, so you didn&#8217;t even have to think about it. \u00a0But I assume you are here because you&#8217;ve ran out of space on your card.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-429\" src=\"http:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/3DS-SD-cards-300x132.jpg\" alt=\"3DS-SD-cards\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/3DS-SD-cards-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/3DS-SD-cards.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 4GB or even the 2GB sized card is normally more than enough for your system files and the images your 3DS takes. \u00a0Because of the\u00a0640&#215;480 resolution, the images taken by your Nintendo 3DS average about 100kb each. \u00a0Even if you take the occasional video, the usage is fairly negligible as long as you don&#8217;t use it excessively. \u00a0You can add a few music playlists and have plenty of room leftover. \u00a0You can more or less ignore this part of the equation and maybe allocate 1GB for everything you&#8217;ll ever need.<\/p>\n<p>Almost the entire space of your SD card should be dedicated to downloaded games from the Nintendo eShop. \u00a0They use a bizarre block system that equates 8 blocks to 1mb and 8,192 blocks to 1gb. \u00a0On average, a Nintendo eShop title that was meant for the Nintendo eShop is about 32mb each; once again fairly negligible even with just a 2GB SD card.<\/p>\n<p>The trouble begins with retail downloads. \u00a0These are full downloads that replace the cartridge games. \u00a0In general, the average game is roughly 512mb each. \u00a0However, RPG titles are known to be quite a bit larger, generally ranging from 1 to 2gb. \u00a0A few higher production games push that limit further by approaching 4gb, these include Resident Evil: Revelations, Bravely Default and Donkey Kong Country Returns. \u00a0As you can imagine, as developers continue to create games for the 3DS, they will get larger and more complex. \u00a0It should not be surprising to see more and more games use 4gb of space.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-430\" src=\"http:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/about_nintendo-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"about_nintendo\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/about_nintendo-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/about_nintendo-268x200.jpg 268w, https:\/\/dsdatabase.org\/beta\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/about_nintendo.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So with all this in mind, what size SD card should you get?
