DealExtreme GameTop 2000 mAh Rechargeable Li-ion battery

I bought this a while back and have been using it for the past two weeks or so. I was quite skeptical at first, how can it double the battery of the original, can it really work? The Chinese writing on the bottom of the package claims that it should let the user play 12 hours (which I assume is on the lowest brightness settings).

Well I can honestly say, this was a good buy. At DealExtreme, the battery costs a mere $6, that is cheaper than the standard batteries. It even comes with a handy screwdriver, and a battery cover that I can’t seem to use (it comes in two parts that don’t fit together, and doesn’t fit in the DS Lite either). Sure the build of the battery isn’t as great, and the white writing on the sticker looks a little more yellow than the official Nintendo one, the teal color looks a bit dull, but it does hold up a decent charge.

The official DS Lite battery has a capacity of 1000mAh, and the GameTop 2000mAh battery obviously advertises to hold 2000mAh. Unfortunately I don’t have any equipment to actually test the capacity of the battery, but I can tell you that the gameplay time certainly exceeds the official 1000mAh batteries. At highest brightness settings, I get about 4 hours on the official DS Lite battery and about 6 hours on the GameTop. This doesn’t reach the advertised 2000mAh, but I would approximate it to 1500mAh.

You always here about explosions with unofficial batteries, or horrible charges. After 2 weeks of use, it hasn’t exploded, died, or even started holding less charge. It works fine, and I am pretty impressed with it. I am using this battery with my clear Nintendo DS Lite:

As you can see, it has Chinese writing on it, and looks a little cheap. But if you had a solid color DS Lite, you would not see the battery, and it would be working longer than your official ones.

This is the battery to get if you want a higher capacity batter, or a dying battery. At $6, it is a steal. I’d highly recommend it, just keep in mind that it doesn’t double your battery life.
