dsigo

They’re over priced, they have some of the most fun games, they’ll never be good as consoles, they’re useless, etc. There’s very mixed messages here and there. So let’s take a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of  handhelds, how they’re treated, the quality of the games they receive, and what role they’ll play in the gaming industry in the future.

YIHAO Headset Review

Hey guys I’m DeltaBurnt. I’m a new blogger here for DS Database :) . Basically I’m just going to post some fun blogs and do reviews of various electronics and toys (possibly flashcarts if I get one that hasn’t been reviewed here yet). Anyways I’m doing a review of a cheap 9 dollar headset on dealextreme. This is a headset from YIHAO that has a microphone (you probably already know that from picture ^^). That’s it right up there *points towards the picture at the top*. Yep that baby’s only 9 dollars! Is it worth it? Or will it fall apart the second you pick it up? Continue reading to find out!

Blackberry Curve 8900 Javelin… worth the carpal thumb syndrome!

Hi EVERYBODY!  This is me_too_lazy, long time admin, first time blogger guy.  You may remember me from such youtube films as DSDatabase.org raffle 1 and DSDatabase.org raffle 2.  Even though this is a website mainly about Nintendo DS products, it is still important that we look at other toys, which is my specialty =]  Today I’ll talk a little bit about my BLACKBERRY CURVE 8900 (AKA Javelin).  *drools*

FiiO PS1110 Walkbox - A Phenomenal Portable Speaker

For some time now, I’ve been looking for a portable speaker, one to bring to school or just at a friends house and just blast music into them. It isn’t exactly easy to do this when your entire music collection is on your iPod. It is quite a hassle to take your music out (coming up in another post soon), or to connect to a larger dock. Instead I found myself looking through the various local shops for something a bit easier to manage. I’ve heard about plenty of portable speaker where you just plug the speaker into the audio jack of your MP3 player, but generally they aren’t well received.

Here I am again in awe with yet another amazing product from FiiO. Titled the PS1110 Walkbox, this portable speaker is about the size of an iPod Classic; slightly smaller in width but longer in height, and almost the same thickness. What is amazing about this speaker is the quality of the sound, and the volumes it reaches. I had to go through a few of the crappy speakers that are offered in shops before actually going online to order this. DealExtreme.com and Focalprice.com both stock the FiiO PS1110, and if you aren’t planning to read any further, go order them now, you won’t be disappointed.

Splashtop - Can’t wait to see more netbooks with it!

It’s been a long time coming, but I think the newly released Asus N10 netbook is the first netbook (I stand corrected, it seems Lenovo had the first netbooks with Splashtop) to be equipped with Splashtop.  I’ve been hoping that splashtop would come to more laptops and computers faster, but it doesn’t seem to be getting too much interest or attention anywhere.

Splashtop is basically a way to speed up the time between turning your computer on and you surfing the net and listening to some music.  Basically it is a way for you to boot a secondary OS (Splashtop) that can be loaded in a matter of seconds.  This OS is limited to only web browsing, music, skype, photos, and instant messaging, which means you’ll have to restart your computer if you want to do your homework or play some games.

Next Generation of Netbooks?

As you all know, I loved my netbook, the EEEPC701. It’s quite amazing to see how fast technology grows and just how much netbooks developed. It started with a 7 inch model from Asus, and now the market is plagued with them. Lately I’ve been thinking about getting a new one, only to find that in the near future, some of these netbooks will do things far beyond what I thought was possible.

It’s been with me for almost a year, but sadly enough I had to sell it so I could move on to the newer generations of netbooks. What is a netbook? It is a cheap and extremely portable laptop. There are variations of the definition, some quoting specs, other about screen size. The truth is, netbooks have become so popular that almost every company now has their own version, some with many versions, each with different specs, design, etc.

FiiO E5

Since I’m a pretty cheap person, I surf DealExtreme.com a lot, and a few months back, I noticed a portable headphone amplifier called the FiiO E3. The FiiO E3 got pretty good ratings, and apparently drastically improves the sound coming from headphones. At the time, I was sort of intrigued. As you may or may not know, I’ve been going through a phase where I wanted to get a pair of decent headphones, but couldn’t exactly because of my extremely limited budget, the FiiO E3 seemed to be a completely plausible solution. Then I read up on the FiiO E3, and found that a new revision called the E5 was to be released, addressing all of the issues of the E3. I waited and waited, and finally, it was on sale at DealExtreme for $21.50, a hefty increase from the $9 of the E3.

The FiiO E5 has received some pretty good reviews, there are lots of graphs online showing how it manipulates different headphones to put out better bass or more even distributions of the frequency, but I didn’t understand much of it. In essence, I think the FiiO E5 does a good job of what it is advertised to do, but sometimes the numbers or technical terms that other reviews put out really distort your expectations. Here I was, expecting my headphones to sound loads better, but the FiiO E5 just doesn’t do that. It has its merits for sure, but don’t be misled to think you’ll get what a real amplifier does or that your headphones will now sound like hundred dollar ones.

Soundmagic PL-30 Earphones

A month ago, I stumbled upon a website called FocalPrice.com, and they were selling some pretty decent headphones. A certain set called the Soundmagic PL-30 has also been getting a reputation for being great headphones for the price, so I decided to give them a go.
